Hello! I’m Emily, an American interior design hobbyist, blogger and author of ThatNordicHome.com. I started this blog to share design inspiration from real Nordic homes.
My mission is to help people create their own beautiful spaces using the Scandinavian style.
I enjoy perusing Airbnb, Pinterest and Instagram for the latest styles from our Nordic friends and looking for special pieces that bring a room to life. If you’re new to the style, I think you’ll find that it’s hard to resist the charm of homes in the Nordic countries!
Scandinavian Style
Somewhere between wanting to understand my Norwegian heritage and wandering through the 300 square foot home display at IKEA, I completely fell in love with Scandinavian style. When I was first introduced to the design style (which was honestly, probably at IKEA…), I was captivated by the whimsical, quirky designs of the lighting fixtures and art.
Accordingly, that’s one of the things I love about the style. There are interesting, conversation pieces that might make you laugh.
But the overall feeling of a wonderfully designed Scandinavian-style room is light, airy, peaceful. These rooms sum up what I’m after in life – a sense of calm, coupled with laughter!

Many of my readers have also come to appreciate their Scandinavian heritage and they want to honor that story in how they decorate their homes. My hope for this website is to make Scandinavian style accessible to everyone, no matter who you are or where you live.
